Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has called on all eligible voters in Lagos State to turn out in large numbers for today’s local government elections.

In a statement released on Friday, the governor emphasised the importance of local government as the closest tier of government to the people, describing it as a key driver of essential services and grassroots development.

“The election offers Lagosians an opportunity to shape the leadership of their local councils by voting for chairmen and councillors who will represent their interests and drive development at the community level,” Sanwo-Olu said.

Highlighting the civic importance of the polls, the governor urged registered voters to peacefully participate in the democratic process, stressing that voting is both a right and a responsibility.

“This election is not just a constitutional process; it is a powerful expression of your voice and civic duty,” he stated.

Governor Sanwo-Olu assured the public of a safe and credible electoral process, revealing that he has directed security agencies to be strategically deployed across all polling units and communities to ensure the protection of voters, electoral officials, and materials.

He also noted that the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has confirmed its readiness to conduct the elections, and he appealed to all political stakeholders, candidates, and party agents to uphold the principles of peace, fairness, and the rule of law throughout the process.
