Former Kaduna State Governor and SDP chieftain, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has revealed that the newly formed opposition coalition may register a new political party as a fallback option should the African Democratic Congress (ADC) face internal disruption.

Speaking with Radio France International (RFI) Hausa on Wednesday night, El-Rufai said the coalition anticipates attempts by the ruling APC to destabilize the ADC through internal sabotage.

“The opposition parties’ alliance in the ADC is temporary, and we may register a new party as a second option, which we will move to should the ADC be instigated into crisis by the government.”

The interview came just hours after the coalition formally adopted the ADC as its political platform during a major unveiling in Abuja.

El-Rufai accused the Tinubu-led administration of trying to pressure opposition figures into joining the APC, saying: “Those who refuse to join the APC face threats of investigations by agencies like the EFCC, ICPC, or the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).”

The statement underscores the fragility of the new alliance and signals strategic caution amid rising political tensions ahead of the 2027 elections.
