King Charles III has experienced some side effects from his ongoing cancer treatment, which led to a short hospital visit on Thursday. Buckingham Palace released a statement explaining that the monarch needed a brief observation period after his medical treatment.
The palace did not specify the exact nature or duration of the side effects. After the observation, the King returned to Clarence House, one of his royal residences in London. As a result of these health complications, all of his scheduled events for Friday in Birmingham have been postponed.

The King expressed deep disappointment about missing these events, with the palace noting that he hopes to reschedule them in the future and offers his deepest apologies to those who worked hard to prepare for his visit.
In February 2024, Buckingham Palace first revealed Charles’s cancer diagnosis. Since then, details about his condition have been limited. The announcement came shortly before news that Princess Kate was also undergoing preventative chemotherapy. Neither the palace nor the royals have disclosed the specific type or stage of their cancers, though Kate has announced that her cancer is now in remission.
In December, a source told NBC News that Charles’ treatment is progressing positively. While his cancer is being managed, treatment is expected to continue into 2025.
Charles became King on 8 September 2022, following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. She was the longest-serving monarch in the United Kingdom’s history, and Charles was the longest-serving heir to the throne before ascending to the throne.
