Truck accident claims five lives in Epe market

Many people were also reportedly injured in the Epe accident as the truck veered off the road into the market on a market day.

he Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the accident but claimed that three people have been confirmed dead.

LASTMA also added that five other people were rescued from two other road accidents in the Abule Egba and Ketu areas of the state.

The Nigerian Tribune gathered that the truck, loaded with cement, was descending a slope in the area when suddenly the brake failed, leading to the accident.

Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, in a statement on Monday said, “The calamity involved a Dangote truck (DCG-TM-028), which experienced a critical brake failure while descending from Ita-Opo

The out-of-control vehicle collided with a tricycle (Marwa AGL 442 QC) and a stationary Toyota Camry at the Ayeyoro traffic light before veering into the Ayetoro Market Complex in Epe.

The unfortunate collision resulted in the fatalities of the tricycle driver and two students from Manpower Technical School.”

The LASTMA spokesperson also continued, “First responders from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), with the assistance of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), swiftly arrived on the scene to secure the area.

The deceased were respectfully transported to the Epe General Hospital mortuary.
