Supporters of Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, including donors, voters and those in her campaign, were trying to keep optimistic despite their anxieties on Monday as they took some early voter turnout stats and recent polls as hints emerged that Harris could beat her Republican opponent Donald Trump in Tuesday’s election.

“Nauseously optimistic” seemed to become a tagline for Democrats heading into Election Day, as rumors swirled that Harris’ chances in the battleground states of Pennsylvania, Georgia and North Carolina were looking decent.
One person with ties to the Harris campaign, when asked how they were feeling, admitted to Reuters, “Like I’m going to vomit every 30 seconds.”

One reason for the recent optimism was a Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa Poll released on Saturday that had Harris surpassing Trump, with likely women voters responsible for the turnaround in a state that Trump easily won in 2016 and 2020.
The poll swept the internet, propelling hope for Harris supporters.
Still, many maintained that the election was expected to be tight and Harris supporters everywhere seemed to chide themselves when hope started to seep in.
“Does anyone else feel excited and optimistic about Harris winning, but also worried about being disappointed like in 2016, but also sure we got this? Because, that’s where I am.” one social media user wrote on X.
“The race isn’t over yet and we must finish strong” Harris said. “The race isn’t over yet and we must finish strong,” she said in Philadelphia.

She presented herself as the unifier.
“I pledge to listen to people who disagree with me. Because, you see, I don’t believe that people who disagree with me are the enemy. I’ll give them a seat at the table.” she said.
“Tonight, then we finish as we started, with optimism, with energy, with joy,” Harris said at her last rally of the night.
Harris did not mention her opponent by name.
