The new regulations mean you may not have to take liquids or electronics out of your bag at security in Dublin Airport

Dublin Airport has introduced new rules regarding liquids and electronics that passengers need to be aware of.
Traditionally, passengers could only carry products of 100mls or less in a clear plastic bag through security lines. However, Dublin Airport has gradually been introducing new scanners over the past year that allow passengers to carry any size liquids in their luggage without having to remove them.

This also applies to laptops, e-readers, tablets and other electronic devices, which previously had to be removed from bags. It’s confirmed that all scanners in Terminal 2 are new and allow travellers to pass through without removing liquids or electronics.
This means passengers can now carry full-size products in their bags. Currently, there are only four new scanners in Terminal 1, so it depends on which security line passengers are directed to, reports RSVP Live.
Until all scanners have been replaced, passengers are advised to stick to the old rules regarding liquids and electronics as it’s not guaranteed which line they will be placed in. Travellers are also reminded that the rules at their destination airport may differ, so they should ensure they don’t have to discard full-size products upon return.
Dublin Airport is on track to replace all its scanners with state-of-the-art C3 scanners in both terminals by October 2025, well ahead of the regulatory deadline of 31 December 2025. The installation process in Terminal 1 will take a bit longer due to the larger size and weight of the new scanners, which necessitate additional reconfigurations.
Here’s a rundown of what Dublin Airport classifies as a liquid, gel or paste:.

- Water and other beverages, soups, syrups
- Pastes, such as toothpaste, butter, margarine, jams. Anything over 100ml is not permitted through screening
- Creams, lotions and oils, including lip balm and moisturiser
- Perfumes
- Make-up items like lipsticks and mascaras
- Sprays, including suntan lotion
- Gels, including hair and shower gels
- Contents of pressurised containers, including shaving foam, other foams and deodorants
- Liquid-solid mixtures
- Any other item of similar consistency
- Remember to check in any liquid over 100ml and if you’re unsure whether an item will be allowed through, it’s always best to check it in with your hold luggage
