Right from when l was growing up, I always knew that l’m not “normal”. I always went against the norm. Took unpopular positions and behavioral patterns. Even as a primary school pupil, l could challenge our dad and fight on behalf of other siblings if l felt they were wrongly treated.

I was never afraid to go against the popular opinion. I have, on several occasions, walked away from mouth-watering offers, even when l was damn broke and could give out the last note in my pocket, while l walked home. That’s why I’m a very free person.
I have just one life to live and therefore, l don’t have to pander to “what would people say”, because other people’s opinions do not have to become my own reality.

I have lived a contented life, not bothered which of my colleagues or contemporaries are richer or have more material acquisitions than me. Thank God for them but I came to this world alone and l would go alone, so, why comparing yourself with others?
My assignment is different and I’m following it to the letter. I take life simple and the reason l make light of even the most serious situation.
Nothing is new under the sun, the good book says. Take each day as it comes, the day you have abundance and the day you have lack, as Apostle Paul said, l have learned how to be contented in whatever situation l find myself.
Just live a simple life. Some people have asked me why l live at Okota while many of my peers are in LeKki and Ikoyi, l tell them, if l factor in what l spend on social services and keep them to myself, l would live in those places; besides, l tell them, don’t forget that some of my peers don’t even have a house of their own and they are not sinners, they didn’t offend God.
I tell them, some social services l do where my resources go, some of these people don’t put resources there. So, I’m comfortable; l don’t live to impress anyone. Live your life without trying to impress others.

I have been blessed with incredible people from diverse backgrounds.
God has been unusually good to me. What l have encountered these past 67 years, no be moin moin. Thank God for His grace. It’s a new dawn, walking into another phase of grace and mercy.
