A Nigerian medical prodigy at the Department of Cardiology, Pirogov University, Russia, Dr Emmanuel Mbahotu, is preparing to launch a research initiative aimed at addressing the causes and prevention of heart attacks.

Mbahotu said the research on microvascular angina would be in collaboration with his supervisor and head of department, Prof. Alexander Shevchenko.
The 27-year-old cardiologist disclosed this to PUNCH Diaspora Tales on Friday.

Mbahotu said, “At the moment, I’m starting work this August on researching microvascular angina with my supervisor.
He said the research would “help predict precursors and future complications surrounding microvascular angina.”
According to him, both of them in December 2024, “did a research presentation on acute coronary syndrome in young adults, which is becoming a problem in Nigeria.”
Last year, Mbahotu earned a scholarship at the Russian National Medical Research University, Moscow, to specialise in heart surgery.
