A 17-year-old student from Yobe State, Nafisat Aminu, has emerged as the top performer in English Language at the TeenEagle Global Finals, an international academic competition held in London, United Kingdom.

According to the results announced on Monday, Nafisat surpassed over 20,000 participants from 69 countries to secure the highest position in the English Language category of the contest. The organisers of the competition, TeenEagle, stated that this year’s finals attracted record participation across multiple continents, with candidates tested on comprehension, expression, vocabulary, and critical analysis.
Her achievement has generated reactions on social media platforms, where many Nigerians have described the result as a positive reflection of the country’s educational potential.

A user identified as @abbeykool posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, “Nigeria wins again,” in response to the announcement. Another user commented, “We have the best brains here; we dominate anytime we compete.”
While Nafisat’s school and family have not yet issued public statements, the development has drawn comparisons to other recent recognitions of Nigerian excellence in sports and academics. Earlier this week, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced financial rewards for the national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, and the Super Falcons following their respective African championship victories.
The TeenEagle competition is an annual event designed to assess teenagers’ proficiency in English through a series of tests and presentations. Organisers said this year’s edition involved candidates drawn from secondary schools and language centres worldwide.
Details about the formal award presentation are expected to be released by the organisers in the coming days.
