Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), has drawn attention to Dubai’s massive investment in aviation infrastructure, contrasting it with Nigeria’s ongoing terminal upgrade at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.

In a social media post on Sunday, Keyamo noted that Dubai authorities have unveiled plans to build a new airport valued at approximately $35 billion (about ₦53 trillion), describing the project as a transformative step for the United Arab Emirates.

He pointed out that Nigeria’s own project-the stripping down, remodelling, and expansion of the MMIA main terminal, would cost less than $500 million, a fraction of the Dubai investment.

Keyamo also disclosed that the Lagos upgrade includes two new ring roads and bridges to ease access in and out of the airport.

The Minister, who shared a video of the Dubai airport development, remarked that such large-scale investments in aviation highlight the scale of global competition and underscore Nigeria’s need for efficient, cost-effective modernisation of its own facilities.

While Nigeria’s aviation industry continues to grapple with challenges of ageing infrastructure and passenger congestion, Keyamo said the Lagos terminal project is designed to deliver world-class efficiency at a comparatively modest cost.
