CSP Dayo Akinbisehin, psc, the Commanding Officer of the Special Police Unit (SPU), Base X1 Osogbo, has successfully facilitated the building of a multi-million Naira, multi-purpose Base and Transit Camp for the Nigerian Police Force.
The facility was commissioned by AIG Adeleye Oyebade, mni, Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone X1, HQS, Osogbo.
Akinbisehin resumed in Osogbo as Commanding Officer just over a year ago. According to him, where the structure is situated was a “thick jungle where only very few daring police personnel serving in the Zonal Headquarters could venture to farm.
Never did anybody envisage that this particular land was originally designated as the permanent site of SPU Base XI Osogbo in the existing Master plan of the Zonal Headquarters”.
The need for a befitting office accommodation for the administrative and operational exigencies of SPU Base X1 Headquarters propelled him and his team to move into the virgin land to commence the project.
Facilities at the complex include a standard charge room with a detention cell for correctional purposes for police personnel deported from the field, Base Staff Officers Office, highly fortified iron cast and explosive-proof armoury, a 50-seater Lecture Hall, which has since been serving the training needs of base personnel, standard parade ground certified by the Police Works department for all the Base Parade, Drill and Musketry activities, Base Quarter-Guard and Sentry.
The Base Training Camp has already turned out five sets of local training programmes and courses for personnel drawn from the field since the beginning of 2019, and no casualty has been recorded.
CSP Akinbisehin disclosed that “All material and financial support for this project were purely through assistance from well-meaning Nigerians whose identities are conspicuously on record in the Base Archives.
“Added to this are the personal efforts and sacrifice of Officers and Men of the Giant SPU Base under myleadership”.
“No government support has come our way so far in building this project other than exploiting the virtues of community policing through pro-active and interpersonal relationship with members of the public”.
He thanked the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, mni, for giving him the rare opportunity to contribute his quota towards the infrastructural development of the Force. He also thanked the AIG of Police Zone X1 Osogbo and the Commissioner of Police SPU Force Headquarters Abuja for their usual encouragements and guidance.
AIG Adeleye Oyebade commended CSP Akinbisehin for his laudable initiative and challenged police officers to emulate his worthy gesture.
The Inspector General of Police, having officially agreed to have the Transit Camp named after him, has since given CSP Akinbisehin Special Commendation for exemplary service to The Nigeria Police Force in addition to those earlier awarded to him by his predecessors.
