The provocative remarks from Netanyahu came after Israeli airstrikes killed 14 people in Beirut and injured 66 others. Out of the injured victims, nine are in critical condition, according to Lebanon’s health ministry
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the goals of the Jewish nation are “clear,” in his first remarks following air strikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut. In his statement on Friday, the Israeli premier insisted that “actions speak for themselves” as the conflict in the Middle East continues to escalate.
“Our goals are clear, and our actions speak for themselves,” the Israeli PM’s office quoted him saying. However, neither Netanyahu nor his office provided any details about the attack on Beirut’s southern suburb, also known as “Dahieh,” a Hezbollah stronghold.

The attack that jolted Beirut
The Lebanese National News Agency reported that the lethal strike struck an apartment in one of the residential buildings of the Jamous area in Beirut’s southern suburb. Following the attack, Israeli officials told the country’s army radio that the main target of the attack was Ibrahim Aqil, a top military commander of the Lebanese group Hezbollah.
Later the Israel Defence Force (IDF) noted that it had assassinated Aqil along with a few senior commanders from the group’s elite Radwan Force. The Beirut strike marked the third attack by Israel on Lebanon’s capital since the hostilities began between the IDF and Hezbollah.
Some of the previous notable attacks included the assassination of Hamas political bureau deputy chief Saleh al-Arouri on January 2 and the killing of prominent Hezbollah leader Fouad Shukr on July 30.
The recent airstrikes also took place days after 37 people were killed and more than 3,250 others, including children and women, were injured in a series of explosions that struck “pager” and “ICOM” wireless devices in Lebanon.
There has been no Israeli comment on the blasts. Amid all the chaos, Israel’s Defence Minister Yoav Gallant warned on Thursday that the conflict with Hezbollah has entered “a new phase.” Hezbollah is yet to comment on the Friday airstrike and the world is keeping a close eye on how the brewing conflict will pan out.
