Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has committed about N5 billion to payment of Pension and Gratuity arrears to retired public servants in the state.
The State Head of Service, Mr Dare Aragbaiye, who stated this while answering questions from journalists in his office in Akure, said retired officers have stated receiving their pension at the same time serving officers were receiving their salary, adding that “this is a clear departure from the time when retired officers were owed pension arrears for months.”
Mr Aragbaiye commended Governor Akeredolu for making payment of salaries and allowances of workers a priority, being the first expenses to be deducted from the state’s monthly allocation.
According to him, the promotion of deserving workers is now being conducted earlier than what obtained under the previous administration, while letters of promotion and financial benefits are also being promptly released to beneficiaries.
He hinted that the state government has compiled the list of vacancies in the civil service with a view to recruiting more staff to re-energize the Civil Service for higher productivity and better delivery of quality service to the people of the state.
