A Nigerian church, the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Goshen Parish based in Annapolis, Maryland, United States, would not have to worry over rent or mortgage anymore after the free gift of land worth $1 million. The pastor of the church, Tunde Gbadamosi, told The Podium that just like the biblical manner falling from heaven, members of the congregation were inundated with joy of the good news after the owner of the church property and land suddenly ceded the asset to his ministry.
Giving a backdrop of how the journey started, Pastor Gbadamosi said he received a revelation to go into ministry on May 4, 2009, and on August 30, 2009, they started the RCCG Goshen Parish at an elementary school in Annapolis, MD. After a stop at PIP Moyer Recreation Center, Annapolis, MD, the current location was leased and they started worshipping there on May 1, 2011.
Narrating the events transpired progressively, Pastor Gbadamosi said: “In 2015, the County came after us and declared that the property was not approved to be used as a church or place of worship. With the help of the Almighty God and the tenacity of the lady who then owned the property, which had been built and used as a place of worship from time immemorial, the County finally changed the zoning in our favor early 2017.
Fast forward to May 1, 2019, our lease was due for renewal. I had a meeting with the then owner, Mrs. Barbara Houck on April 19, 2019. She informed me of her desire to increase the rent from $1800 to $2400 and also that we would be responsible for all repairs (both tenant’s and landlord’s combined) henceforth. Knowing that there are some major repairs to be done including the entire roof, I declined her offer. She then stated her desire to sell the property (2.3 acres) to the developers building new homes all over the neighborhood. We both agreed that based on the terms of the current lease, we should vacate the property by December 31, 2019.
On April 29, 2019, the lady called for another meeting and we agreed to meet on Friday, May 3, 2019. On the agreed date this time around, she came with her husband, Mr. Robert Houck. Mr. Houck did most of the talking and said his wife loves me and the way we have used and maintained the property. He asked pointedly if our church still wanted to continue worshipping there, to which I answered affirmatively. He then said they wanted to sell the property outright and are willing to help us acquire it. He proposed their willingness to sell at a heavily discounted price of $200,000.00, with them giving us an owner financed mortgage of 3% for 10 years. With my knowledge of the mortgage industry, I literally jumped for joy at this offer because I know that one cannot get such a deal now with any bank, even for a residential property. He said he would instruct their attorney to put this deal together, and we all walked away with joy.
However, to my utter amazement and joy, on Saturday, May 4, 2019, I received an email from the lady giving hint of a gift transfer. She requested documents to prove the church’s legal and tax-exempt status in the State of Maryland and with the IRS. She gave me her attorney’s number. I called the attorney and she confirmed that she had been asked to prepare a gift transfer with no mention of any $200,000.00 mortgage! Is this for real was my reaction? I immediately sent the requested documents to the attorney and settlement was scheduled for May 24th.
Then came D-Day, May 24, 2019 at 10 am in the attorney’s office, the transfer documents were signed and witnessed within 10 minutes. My prayer partner, another RCCG Parish Pastor was there to witness the glorious transfer with me. Indeed, what a day of glory! I woke up as pastor of a church that is a tenant in its worship location and went to bed as pastor of the same church owning the very same property FREE and CLEAR of any lien or encumbrances. My God, You’re too much! ALL GLORY BE TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST!!!!!”
The RCCG Goshen Parish just celebrated its 10th year anniversary in August, shortly after the miraculous land gift and the church was also honored with the rare privilege of hosting the live ministration of the General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye in July.
According to RCCG Goshen Parish pastor, exactly a week before the GO’s visit, Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo of the Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC) in London came to pronounce blessings on the church after hearing about the free land testimony. He added that the church has almost turned into a pilgrimage site as Apostle Wole Oladiyun of Christ LivingSpring Apostolic Ministry (CLAM) also visited in August to shower blessings on the property. Apostle Oladiyun even took with him stones on the church ground as a point of contact with the favor.
