Media watch: A look at what’s doing the rounds across the news and social media at Liverpool, including Mohamed Salah, Harvey Elliott, Steven Gerrard and Kylian Mbappe
Harvey Elliott is already one of those players being talked about as a potential generational talent in the years to come. Liverpool bought him for the future, but it’s up to the present day version of the player to make sure that the idealised future comes to fruition.
That’s the vision, and if what we’re seeing from his loan stint at Blackburn is anything to by, we’re all in for a treat. A video posted on his Instagram page shows him performing a remarkable chip in training to lob the goalkeeper from over the halfway line.
More of the same in a Liverpool shirt next season, please.
Steven Gerrard, the title winning manager
Sunday was not a good day for Liverpool, but it was for one of their former players in Steven Gerrard. He has now won his first major trophy in management by guiding Rangers to the Scottish Premiership title.
A lot will be said about Gerrard in the coming days, and BT Sport posted a brilliant video showing the Liverpool legend go through his career in football to where he is now as a manager. It’s definitely worth a watch.
Another Mbappé rumour
It seems like we’re getting an apparent ‘update’ on the future of Kylian Mbappé on a daily basis. While most of it is more than likely nothing more than gossip, it’s up to you to decide if the latest instalment is just that. A helpful hint, it probably is.
The latest rumour from AS, via Sports Mole, suggests that Liverpool would be able to raise the funds to sign Mbappe this summer, provided Mohamed Salah leaves the club. Given that the current financial market makes big-money deals very unlikely, there’s a lot to happen here for this to even remotely come close to happening.
Best to ignore this one for now
Salah’s national team call-up
Back to the subject of Salah, and he has been called up by the Egypt national team for their upcoming AFCON qualifiers later this month. This comes just days after Jürgen Klopp said Liverpool would be against players leaving on international to jet off around the globe.
You can’t blame him, to lose a player for the 10 days they would have to quarantine for is an unwanted scenario. Whether the club put a stop to Salah going away to represent his country remains to be seen. Any impact that would follow on from such a call would likely add further speculation to the Egyptian’s future.
