This was confirmed by Mosunmola Olabige, Chief Press Secretary to Agbado/Oke-Odo LCDA Chairman, David Famuyiwa, in a statement titled ‘COVID 19- Council Chairman Close Down Meiran PHC’.

The statement quoted Famuyiwa as shutting down the health centre to curb the spread of the virus among other workers and patients.

The statement read, “In a swift reaction to contain and avert the spread of coronavirus in the communities, the Chairman of Agbado/Oke-Odo LCDA has ordered the immediate closure of Meiran Primary Health Centre.

“This became necessary as some members of staff of the health centre tested positive for the dreaded virus.

“The Chairman also ordered the immediate contact tracing of their colleagues and associates as well as patients who visited the facility in the last few days.

“He also used the medium to admonish the community members to take responsibility for their health and life by avoiding social events that attract large gatherings and by adhering strictly to the laid down guidelines of the use of face masks, regular handwashing and the use of sanitisers, maintaining adequate social distancing while in public places in order to flatten the curve of the pandemic.”

Earlier, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, cautioned Nigerians against the belief that the existence of coronavirus is a hoax.

Sanwo-Olu said, “Lagosians, #COVID19 is not a glamorous disease, neither is it a hoax. You need to follow the safety guidelines to safeguard your friends and loved ones.”

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control said the country’s COVID-19 infections increased from 97,478 on January 8 to 99,063 on Saturday, indicating 1,585 new infections, and with eight additional COVID-19 related deaths in the last 24 hours.
