The online banking platforms of First Bank PLC may have been compromised by yet-to-be-identified persons, although Anonymous, an online network known for launching cyberattacks against government institutions, is the prime suspect.
The Podium could not access the site when it visited at 3.40pm today.
Anonymous was rumoured to have hacked the CBN website over the weekend, but the apex financial institution has issued a statement to deny that its site was hacked.
First Bank sent a message to its customers on Friday about a planned routine maintenance:
“There will be a routine maintenance on our system between 17/10/20 from 12.30 – 2.30am & 18/10/20 from 12.30a,m-2.30am which may affect your experience on some of our channels. We apologise for any inconvenience this might cause”, the Bank said in the notice.
Officials of the bank could not be reached for comments.
