Apple's Tim Cook tells Biden permanent fix for 'Dreamers' a 'crucial part' of immigration reform

Apple CEO Tim Cook told President Biden in a letter Friday that providing permanent legal status for “Dreamers” is a crucial part of any comprehensive immigration reform.

Cook said that immigrants who came to the U.S. illegally as children are “invaluable members of our team.” He wrote to Biden on behalf of the Business Roundtable, where he serves as immigration committee chair.

“These are young people who represent the best of our country — a place where individuals, in all our diversity, can come together to realize the American Dream and build a better future for the next generation. They know America as home and deserve the chance to pursue the same opportunities this country has long fostered,” Cook wrote.

He commended Biden for his executive action preserving protections for members of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. Former President Trump had attempted to end the DACA program in 2017, but the Supreme Court blocked the move.

Cook also expressed his support, on behalf of the Business Roundtable, for making a permanent legal solution for DACA a priority in Biden’s first 100 days as president.

Biden has repeatedly voiced support for a path to citizenship for Dreamers, including it in his legislative proposal to overhaul the immigration system.
