Presidential spokesman, Mr Femi Adesina, has responded to criticisms of President Muhammadu Buhari on the divisive tendencies of his administration.
According to Adesina, Nigeria has always been divided, since its amalgamation in 1914.
The spokesman, who featured on a Channels TV Programme monitored in Lagos on Wednesday, said the division of Nigeria predated the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Adesina spoke in response to stinging comments by former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Professor Wole Soyinka on the divisive impact of the Buhari administration’s actions and utterances.

Adesina described Nigeria as an inconvenient amalgamation which has always been divided, adding that the current administration has been making efforts to unite the nation.
He accused some people of playing politics with everything by widening the gulf between Nigerians instead of letting harmony return to the country. “So, if they say Nigeria is divided today, it is because Nigeria has always been divided. And all efforts to unite Nigeria and Nigerians never worked,” he said.
Soyinka had released a statement on Tuesday, September 15, titled, “Between ‘Dividers-in-chief’ and Dividers-in-law.” This followed the former president Obasanjo’s assertion that Nigeria had been more divided under President Buhari.
